When Shigeru Takada stepped down after the team's 9th straight loss 5/26/2010, the Swallows were 13-32-1. Junji Ogawa took over as interim manager the following day and started his managing career with a 3-3 tie against the Rakuten Eagles.
Fast forward to 10/3: the Swallows won their 70th game of the season. Under Ogawa, the Swallows are now an impressive 57-34-3. The Swallows joined the Nankai Hawks (1962, 20 games back) as the only two clubs in NPB history to finish out their season with .500 or better mark after being down 19 games of more.
And with 4 games left on the schedule, the worst the Swallows can do now is go 70-70-4.
This will also be the Swallows first .500 or better season since the team went 72-64-2 (.529 WPCT) in 2004.
