Hanshin Tigers: Nomi set to go in gm 1; Kanemoto hurting?

by on Oct.11, 2010 @ 10:42 pm, under NPB

Atsushi Nomi seems to be the top candidate to start game 1 of the First Stage of the Climax Series.

Tomoaki Kanemoto skipped BP on the Sunday (10th) and Monday (11th) to give his shoulder a rest.  He will probably take BP again on the 12th and 14th (the team has the day off on the 13th).  Kanemoto was taken out of the starting line-up for the final game of the regular season (7th) due to shoulder pains.  And as of yesterday, it seems he wasn't really in any shape to swing a bat, despite have the 8th and 9th off.

Kyuji Fujikawa held a bullpen session on Sunday and threw about 30 pitches.  Jason Standridge also threw off the mound (18 pitches).  They were the only two pitchers that held bullpen session on the first day of full squad practice on Sunday.

For Fujikawa, it was apparently a bit unusual since he normally isn't in a rush to hold bullpen sessions.  And it seems he wasn't even planning on holding one until that day.

Minoru Iwata faced Yuhei Kai and Shintaro Tanaka (ikusei) during BP and threw a total 37 pitches while giving up 4 could-be hits.  Iwata is now penciled in for a simulated game on the 14th.  If he's feeling fine after that, he'll get a 3-inning Phoenix League start on the 20th (vs Lotte).  And again, depending on how he's feeling, he could get a second Phoenix League start on the 26th (vs Yomiuri).
