Tigers’ owner would like to see Mayumi stick around for another 2-3 years

Hanshin Tigers' owner Shinya Sakai told reporters on Sunday that if things were up to him, he'd ideally like to keep Akinobu Mayumi on for 2-3 more years.  Perhaps this is why the Tigers aren't working so hard to persuade Senichi Hoshino from leaving.  And you could take that to mean two different things: 1) the Tigers found a replacement they can trust and now Hoshino has become expendable, or 2) the Tigers found a replacement they can trust and don't want to waste any more of Hoshino's time.

My guess is Yano – everyone in Kansai loves him and he always struck me as coach or manager material.

Mayumi is a horrible manager who can’t handle his pitching staff as evidenced today against Yomiuri. How canhe have left Fujikawa in there when he couldn’t find the plate at all?? This team majorly underachieved this year. What a disappointment.
