Hanshin Tigers: Kanemoto begins swinging the bat again

by on Oct.13, 2010 @ 1:42 pm, under NPB

Atsushi Nomi struck out Craig Brazell, Kenji Jojima and Kentaro Sekimoto during simulated BP on Tuesday.  After facing those three batters, Nomi turned it down a couple of notches so that batters could get their work in.  Nomi faced a total 6 batters and surrendered 2 could-be hits.  Seems he also mixed in his side-throw slider (3 out of 28 pitches).

Jason Standridge faced 8 batters and gave up 1 could-be hit.  Randy Messenger faced 9 batters and gave up 5 consecutive could-be hits.

Craig Brazell had 4 at bats and struck out 3 times during Tuesday's simulated BP: strikeout, strikeout, homer, strikeout.

Full squad practice for the Tigers started on the 10th.  For the first two days, Tomoaki Kanemoto rested his ailing right shoulder and didn't do anything throwing or take any BP.  On Tuesday, he rejoined the others and worked on a regular practice menu.  While Kanemoto didn't take place in simulated BP, he did take regular BP.  He's also penciled in to play tomorrow's intra-squad practice game.  It seems the Tigers are hoping to have a better feel for Kanemoto after tomorrow's practice game.

Kanemoto took a total 38 swings during his BP session on Tuesday.

The Tigers will be re-evaluating Yasutomo Kubo's left leg (shin area) again today to see how he's doing after taking a liner off Takahiro Arai's bat during simulated BP on Tuesday.  At worst, Kubo could miss a start.
