Hanshin Tigers: News and notes from 10/24/2010

It seems Minoru Iwata might be getting a little antsy for his next rehab start.

Iwata was originally scheduled to start a Phoenix League game on the 20th, but that game was canceled due to rain.  Since then, every Hanshin game on the Phoenix League schedule has been canceled due to the rain (20th, 21st, 23rd, and now the 24th).

Keisuke Kano is currently rehabbing his lower back at the Naruohama training facilities.  Trainer Yasunori Gonda told reporters that Kano was still at the stage where he needed to figure out what he was able to do and what he wasn't able to do (with regards to his training).

The Hanshin Tigers gave Matt Murton a DVD full of good defensive replays.  Seems the Tigers would like to see Murton get better at playing the corner outfield positions, in addition to improving his fielding and throwing skills from center.

And it seems Nike has prepared two types of batting gloves for Murton to try out for the 2011 season.  The cleats he'll use next year will probably be the same type he wore during the All-Star games this year.

Kentaro Sekimoto had his second meeting with the front office on Friday (only his agent attended).  For the time being, it seems Sekimoto is leaning towards not exercising his FA option.  But if Sekimoto does become an FA, Daily Sports feels a number of teams will be interested in his services.

Keiichi Hirano visited Mizuno Technics on Friday to thank the company for his strong hitting season (his .350 batting average was good for second in the CL) and to get started on his new bat for the 2011 season.  While the basic type of bat Hirano will use next season likely won't change much, the material will: he'll go from using aodamo to maple.
