Well, it was on for the 1st round anyways….
Sorry, didn’t see this comment until just now.
As a Tigers fan, I’m really excited that Hifumi fell to us in round 2. That kid was a beast at Koshien this year – I get the feeling he and Akiyama will be the cornerstones of a really good rotation in a few years.
I never was fully sold on Hifumi, especially after his change in delivery. While he did help his team make a deep run at Koushien, it seems that unless he fixes his control issues I don’t know if he’ll really be a top pitcher. It’s also probably why he went in round 2.
What can you tell us about Shiomi Takahiro?
Shiomi’s a lefty, which is always a plus. He also stands at 181cm and weighs 78kg. He tops out at around 147km/h and can throw a slider, curve, fork, and cutter. He had a 10.8 SO/9 over his college career and also had a string of 55 scoreless innings.
I guess with Iwakuma possibly gone, pitching is needed. Now to do something about the terrible offense….
I have a few pictures of Shiomi up with some details. He’s a big lefty, can hit 147 and compliment it with a ridiculous 99km/h curve a second later. He didn’t give up a single earned run this past spring. Also threw a no-hitter against Tohoku Fukushi this past Sunday in the Meiji Jingu tournament qualifiers.
Am a Hanshin Fan too.. I am not so happy that the second year in a row Seibu pulled the best pitcher out of the hat. But I am with you Eric on Hifumi. Hopefully he will be another Fujihara and develop quickly.
DOES THE I STAND FOR AN INDEPENDENT PLAYER DRAFTED? IF SO THAT IS A GOOD SIGN FOR BASEBALL.
I stands for industrial and IND stands for independent. I probably should have picked better abbreviations. Sorry for the mix-up.
Dunno when Gen’s going to enter it all on his blog, so if it helps, here’s my liveblog of the draft with which school or company or team the players came from, as well as birthday, height/weight, etc.
