Softbank Hawks: Kazumi Saito to sign a contract as coach?

It seems the Softbank Hawks will be signing Kazumi Saito to a contract as a rehab coach for the 2011 season.  This doesn't mean he's retiring -- Saito will continue to work on his comeback while also being a rehab coach.

This is appropriate, if anything. Saitoh would know a thing or two about rehabbing, haha.

HA! Seriously though, this does make a lot of sense for both parties. I’m not exactly sure how much Saito will do, but it means the Hawks get to hold on to Saito without having to overpay or pay him for something he may not be able to do next year and Saito saves some face by not having to sign an ikusei contract. And he also gets to help the team out in more “official” capacity (titles can mean a lot in Japan).
