...met with Tetsuya Sakaguchi (Ikusei 1st round) on Thursday. Seems Sakaguchi would like to work on becoming a player like former Tiger (and also a graduate of the same high school Sakaguchi will be graduating from) Taira Fujita.
...The Tigers may not have Daiki Enokida (1st round) start at Ichi-gun spring camp next year. With their first and second round draft picks from 2009, Kazuhito Futagami and Masanori Fujihara respectively, getting hurt after starts at Ichi-gun spring camp this year, the Tigers are being a little more careful with Enokida and will likely wait to see how his off-season training goes before making a decision.
...agreed to basic terms with Yuki Tsurumoto (7th round). Contract: 4.5M yen, 15M signing bonus.
...met with Yuki Shichijo (2nd round) today. The Swallows like Shichijo for his close to 150km/h fastball and the fact that he throws complimentary breaking pitches (with downward movement).
...met with Takanori Sato (Ikusei 3rd round) on Thursday. Said Sato, "I'm grateful for the chance to play alongside my older brother [Yoshinori]. I'd like to become a player like Norichika Aoki." Sato can run the 50m in 5.8s and is also hoping to bulk up to 85kg -- he apparently already gained 8kg (by eating 5-6 meals a day) since the end of Koshien and currently weighs 80kg.
Nippon Ham Fighters
...met with Masaru Saito (6th round) on Thursday. Since the Fighters already have two other Masaru's (Nakamura and Takeda), Saito told reporters that he wanted to separate himself from them by finding something that only he can do. Said Saito, "I don't throw a lot of fastballs. ... I like to mix my pitches up by taking things off. I think being able to do that is my strength."
...met with Shohei Tsukahara (4th round) today. Tsukahara tops out at 148km/h and throws a fork. Said Tsukahara, "I'm really happy that Orix selected me. Even I'll be joining the club out of high school, I have my eyes on being on the active roster come opening day."
...met with Takahiro Kato (Ikusei 1st round) on Thursday. Seems the Eagles feel Kato has the tools to become a good pitcher in the future -- they like his mechanics and his fastball. They ultimately project him as an Ichi-gun starter.
...met with Kengo Kimura (Ikusei 2nd round) on Thursday. Said Kimura, "I'm grateful for the chance to play. [Since I'm their first ever draft selection that was born in Miyagi,] I'd like to do my best to make the active roster and play at Kleenex Stadium."
Tatsuya Oishi apparently told reporters after the Waseda - Keio game on Wednesday that he wouldn't mind becoming a starter and that he would have to work on improving his stamina.
...met with Yuki Yanagita (2nd round) on Thursday. Said Yanagita, "I think [batting coach Yasuo] Fujii has great skills and a lot of knowledge of batting. I really look forward to learning things from him." Yanagita can run the 50m in 5.9 seconds and can throw the ball 125m.
