The bidding period for Hisashi Iwakuma ended on the 5th and it seems at least one MLB club submitted one bid for the righty. The Eagles now have until 11/12, 7am JST (11/11, 5pm EST) to decide on whether they will accept the bid. If the bid is accepted, MLB clubs will have 30 days to work out a deal with Iwakuma.
An article over at Sports Hochi speculates that the Mariners may be the leading candidate to land negotiation rights for Iwakuma and that the top bid may have be around 1.1B yen ($US13M)
Comments from the Eagles:
Club Rep Jun Yoneda - "We received a phone call around 7:30, in addition to an e-mail. We're a little relieved to hear there was a bid. As for the amount, no comment."
The Eagles also apparently said that they'd like to make a speedy decision.
Comments from Iwakuma from Friday:
"I'm nervous waiting to hear the news. Like the draft? To put it simply, kind of like that."
"It's tomorrow (11/6) at 6 right? Does the club find out too? I'll be thankful if there's a club that submitted a bid."
"I have checked around on the net to find out which teams may have submitted bids. All I can do now is wait. Getting this decided early on means I'll be able to start preparations soon. That's a good thing."
