Masashi Nohara and Daiki Kiyohara joined the Tigers for fall camp on Friday. And it seems for practice, the Tigers had the position players spend about 50 minutes working on bunting.
M. Nohara is and Issei Morita are also hoping to show the Tigers they can hit. M. Nohara took 97 swings during regular BP (13 over the fence) and 203 swings during extra BP (21 over the fence). And Morita took 98 swings during regular (16 over the fence).
Robert Zarate held his first bullpen session on Friday. He threw a total 42 pitches -- 12 to a standing catcher and 30 to a squatting catcher -- and mixed in his slider, fork, change, and two-seamer. Seems he had Yuji Nishiguchi (an assistant dorm leader that worked as bullpen coach for the team for close to 30 years) scrambling after the ball because he had a hard time catching the ball (lots of movement).
Takumi Akiyama is working on strengthening the muscles in his shoulder and back. He's also working on his weight transfer while pitching.
Kenji Jojima will be working on his throwing mechanics from behind the plate during the off-season by watching a video tape advance scouts will be putting together for him (in addition to batting footage). Jojima threw out runners at a .349 clip this season, good for third best in the league.
It should also be noted that this is something Jojima is requesting and will of course be footage of him.
