Hanshin Tigers News and Notes: November 8, 2010

Akinobu Mayumi apparently had outfielders working on climbing the outfield fences during fielding practice on Sunday.  Seems he thinks there may be more close home runs next year with the introduction of a new baseball that doesn't carry as much.

===

Minoru Iwata tossed 103 pitches in the bullpen on Sunday.  Seems throwing over 100 pitches in a session was one of the goals he set out to accomplish during the off-season.  Iwata is also scheduled to pitch in a simulated game on either the 14th or 15th.

===

Masanori Fujihara threw a total 400 pitches over a span of 3 days (11/5 - 11/7).  On the 7th, he threw 130 pitches and then did some shadow pitching and "threw" an additional 200 shadow pitches.  Fujihara told reporters that it was the most he had thrown since turning pro.

===

Robert Zarate held his second bullpen session at Naruohama on Sunday and threw about 50 pitches.  Seems there's also some minor hoopla about whether or not he'll move away from using glasses to goggles or something else.

===

It seems Ken Nishimura is fine with Mayumi's decision to use him out of the bullpen.  Said Nishimura, "It isn't my place to decide where I pitch.  If there's an opening somewhere, that's where I'll do my best."  Nishimura is currently resting his arm and hasn't done anything throwing but would like to start a throwing program before the end of the year.

===

The Tigers may be thinking about moving Tatsuya Kojima to the bullpen in an effort to strengthen their relief corp from the left side.  They'll also be trying Yusuke Kawasaki and Kazuya Tsutsui as possible left-handed options.

===

Keiichi Hirano will apparently be used exclusively as a second basemen next season.

===

Masashi Nohara worked out at second during situational fielding practice on the 7th.

===

Naohisa Sugiyama did some running in the outfield (about 30 minutes) on Sunday before moving to the indoor facilities for rehab work on his right elbow.  Sugiyama starting practicing again on the 6th after having surgery on his right elbow on 10/29.

===

Tomoaki Kanemoto worked out for about 3 hours in the afternoon at Naruohama on Sunday after spending time at a Fukuoka hospital getting treatment on his right shoulder.
