Chunichi Dragons: Hiromitsu Ochiai looking to make changes

by on Nov.09, 2010 @ 6:00 pm, under NPB

It seems Hiromitsu Ochiai is looking to make some moves during the off-season to help strengthen the team, that includes signing a big FA name, going after new foreign talent, and / or pulling off a trade.

Said Ochiai, "We obviously haven't been able to address our weaknesses over the last two years.  We'll make some moves this year.  Up until now, there weren't any players we wanted, but things are a little different this year."

The Dragons appear to have an interest in potential FA players like Mitsutaka Goto (Orix) and Yoshiyuki Ishihara (Hiroshima).  They're also looking into Takahiro Saeki (Yokohama) as a veteran bat off the bench.  Head coach Shigekazu Mori is also expected to fly out to South America to check on untapped talent.

"We won't turn this into a money game," said Ochiai.  "We'll put together fair offers and if that doesn't get the job done, then so be it.  We'll also find some foreign talent.  We have our goals."
