A slightly longer list of comments from Kobayashi (via Sanspo):
When did you make the decision?
After we became champions. I decided after the Nippon Series.
Are you feeling confident?
I'm exercising the option because I'm feeling confident and because I feel strongly about giving this a try.
What do you consider you strength?
My fastball isn't that fast. If I can change speed and use my control, if I can get it all out there, I think that will be good.
Are you really excited?
50/50. I really like Lotte and I like my teammates here. I played here a really long time.
Is there a club you'd like to play for?
What kind of role would you like?
I want to put up results wherever I'm used. In my mind, I'll pitch in whatever capacity they want me to.
Anything for your fans?
Players and fans provided me with a lot of support over these 14 years. I'm very grateful for that.
The Marines also held a press conference for Kobayashi at Chiba Marine Stadium today.
On playing in the Majors:
"I have a dream. And I'd like to give it a shot. I'm really grateful to the Marines for the 14 years they took care of me."
And regarding the possibility of staying in Japan:
"I can't say it's 0%. I think it would be nice to hear what all the clubs might have to offer."
Hiroyuki Kobayashi filed the necessary paperwork for international FA today.
