Hanshin Tigers News and Notes: November 13, 2010

Seems Akinobu Mayumi would like to see Takashi Toritani hit closer to 30 homers next season.  Toritani banged out 19 homers (he hit a career high 20 in 2009) and batted a career high .301 this past season.

Yokohama Bay Stars' senryokugai Kosuke Kato worked out for about an hour and half on Friday in preparation for his tryouts (with the Tigers) that begins today.  After warm-ups, some dashes, and playing catch, Kato threw 26 pitches (while mixing in his curve, slider, change, and shuto, no forkballs) to a standing catcher at a distance of about 20 meters.  Kato is hoping to aggressive during his tryouts and show that he isn't afraid to throw inside.

Shinobu Fukuhara apparently told the Tigers that he wasn't going to exercise his domestic FA option in order to stay with the club.

Is that the same Katoh who almost got Brazell to charge the mound with a brushback last year? Haha, man, that would be funny if they wound up playing on the same team.
