Softbank Hawks going after Marcus Thames?

by on Nov.14, 2010 @ 2:13 pm, under NPB

According to Sponichi, the Softbank Hawks appear to be pursuing Marcus Thames.  Assuming Hitoshi Tamura leaves via free agency, the Hawks will be in need of a bat with some pop (actually, a power bat appears to be on the Hawks' list regardless of whether or not Tamura leaves).  Ironically, it seems the Hawks may be preparing Thames a multi-year deal worth 150M yen, a deal which could be a great starting point for keeping Tamura in Fukuoka.  But it would seem the Hawks have a different set a rules for signing foreign players and domestic players -- that is, foreign players apparently don't need a one year deal or award bonuses to keep them motivated.
