Yasushi Iihara nailed a fly ball during BP on Friday that hit and smashed the front windshield of a car in the parking lot.  No one was hurt during the incident (other than the car).

Ryo Hidaka is trying to win a spot in the Ichi-gun starting rotation next year.  On Friday, Hidaka tossed 50 pitches in the bullpen under the watchful eyes of the other coaches.  Said Hidaka, "I'm getting better control of my off-speed pitches and that's leading to more confidence.  For fall camp, I'm just doing lots of running in order to build up my stamina."

Hidaka actually won a spot to fall camp with a strong performance during the Phoenix League.

The Swallows are thinking about moving Tatsuyoshi Masubuchi out of the pen and into the rotation again.  While the first four spots in the rotation appear to be set with Masanori Ishikawa, Shohei Tateyama, Kyohei Muranaka, and Yoshinori Sato, the Swallows still aren't sure who will follow as the 5 and 6 pitchers in the rotation.  Possibilities include Masato Nakazawa, Minoru Yamagishi, Hitoshi Yamamoto, Hidaka, and Masubuchi.

On Saturday, Masubuchi threw 108 pitches in the bullpen and told reporters that he was informed to work out while keeping in mind that he might be moved to the rotation.
