Yoshinori Sato tossed 109 pitches in the bullpen on Monday. Yoshinori is currently in the process of picking up a two-seamer and told reporters that he's still having a hard time getting a feel for the ball but wasn't having any issues throwing the pitch since it was similar to the way he threw his fastball. Yoshinori apparently wants to increase the number of off-speed pitches he has to give himself more variety when facing batters.
Junji Ogawa named Kyohei Muranaka as a candidate to start on opening day. Seems Ogawa wants to spread the responsibilities if pitching in the starting rotation to players other than Masanori Ishikawa and Shohei Tateyama and feels that an opening day start might help move things along for Muranaka.
Incidentally, Ishikawa has been the opening day start over the last three years.
