Dodgers sign two Japanese players to minor league deals

by on Nov.19, 2010 @ 3:52 pm, under MLB

The Dodgers apparently signed left-handed pitcher Kazuki Nishijima (out of college) and right-handed pitcher Kazuya Takano (out of high school) to minor league deals.

Nishijima attended Meiji University and stands at 186cm and weighs 89kg.  He has a fastball that tops out at 143km/h.  Nishijima also throws a slider, a big curve, and a shuto.

Takano, out of Buntoku High School, is 185cm tall and weighs 76kg.  Takano has a pretty good slider (in addition to a curve and fork) that also seems to get hit fairly often; he tops out at 144km/h.

Neither player was selected during this year's draft.

NOTE: Los Angeles Times' Kevin Baxter also mentions this in a recent update.
