Daily Sports reports that the Rakuten Eagles may be looking into Kazuo Matsui, Seung-Yeop Lee, Kenshin Kawakami, and foreign players.
Senichi Hoshino was questioned by reporters at a party yesterday in Osaka and expressed interest in Matsui. Seems Hoshino thinks Matsui still has enough to play in Japan and that he was close to Matsui. He also hinted that he might contact him directly, since that usually was the quickest way to get a player to agree. And according to Hoshino, there's at least one other club interested in Matsui, in addition to the Buffaloes.
With regards to the other three:
On Lee - "There is the matter of the foreign player limit. ... I'm sure there are a lot of teams that want him. And I'm sure he also doesn't want to leave things the way they currently are."
On Kawakami - "Atlanta didn't have a good offense. He pitched well, but doesn't have the numbers to show for."
On foreign players - "A triple-A closer or started would be nice."
"I plan on looking into possibilities through to July," said Hoshino. "When I look into players, I have about 10 things I look into. I even look into [a player's] wives and children."
