Hanshin Tigers’ Fan Appreciation Day

About 36,000 fans showed up for Fan Appreciation Day on Saturday.  Amongst some of the things that happened:

Club president Nobuo Minami made a speech and apologized for failing to advance and win the Nippon Series tournament, especially during the team's 75th anniversary year.

Akinobu Mayumi announced that Ken Nishimura, Takumi Akiyama, and Shunsuke Fujikawa were selected to receive this year's M-1 Grand Prix.  The M-1 Grand Prix is an award given out to players under 30 and making less than 30M yen.  The award also includes a cash prize of 10M yen.

An old-timer's game (3 innings) was played in which current Ni-gun batting coach Hiroshi Yagi hit a walk-off 2-run homer and won the game's MVP award.

Takashi Toritani was announced as the team's MVP for the 2011 season and was awarded a C200 Mercedes Benz.

ABC TV will be broadcasting parts of the event at 4:30pm on the 28th.
