According to Nikkan Sports, the Chunichi Dragons are currently mulling over the possibility of offering 38-year-old Kazuhiro Wada a multi-year deal that could be as long as 3 years (Wada just finished out the final year of a 3-year deal he signed before the 2008 season).
Wada is coming off an impressive season in which he set new career highs in runs (94), hits (171), homers (37), and walks (92). He also recorded his second consecutive 144 game season and has played in at least 131 games in each of this last 5 seasons (the last three with Chunichi).
At 1,516 career hits, Wada is also just about 3 years removed from becoming a 2,000-hit player (if he continues to stay healthy and produce). He's also 41 homers away from reaching 300. By giving Wada a 3-year deal, the team is probably hoping he manages to reach both milestones while in a Dragons' uniform.
