Yokohama disappointed in losing Hosokawa sweepstakes

by on Nov.24, 2010 @ 3:09 pm, under NPB

The Yokohama Bay Stars were apparently disappointed that Toru Hosokawa picked the Softbank Hawks yesterday.  They will now switch gears and focus in on Hichori Morimoto (there are plans for the two sides to meet some time this month).

On a side note: (via Sponichi) at Fan Appreciation Day yesterday, Seiichi Uchikawa road a mini-train with fans headed for Haneda Airport.  Upon seeing Uchikawa on the train, club president Takao Kaji apparently said (jokingly), "We have to stop him [from going to Fukuoka and Hiroshima]."

Well do something about it instead of making dumba$$ jokes! When you have a team where no other team’s players who are any good want to join, then at least keep your own players you have who are good?

Herein lies the problem with teams that have lost so horribly for so long: nobody wants to go or stay there, and if you want to attract talent, then you have almost no choice but to overpay.

Yeah that’s a good point. But when you are overpaying for other team’s players, you are attracting a lot of players who just want money. At least if you overpay your own people, you can justify it as rewarding them for putting up with all the losing they have been through on your team?

Yokohama seems to be the graveyard for players other teams don’t want because they just can’t play at a high level on a daily basis anymore.
