It seems Kazuo Matsui has decide what he wants to do and will likely make a formal announcement of his decision soon (Daily Sports thinks that could happen as early as today). It seems Matsui has already broken off contract talks with the Yomiuri Giants and informed the Buffaloes that he would not be accepting their offer over the phone (Orix is now 0-for-2 in the FA market). Which means Matsui most likely chose the Rakuten Eagles as his likely landing destination.
While there have been no reports on what went on during negotiations with the Giants, the Buffaloes' last offer to Matsui is said to be a 3-year deal worth around 450M yen. The Eagles' offer appears to be a 2-year deal worth somewhere between 400M and 500M yen. It also seems as though they've prepared the number 3 for Matsui.
A Sports Hochi article guesses that Matsui (at short) and Akinori Iwamura (third) will round out the left side of the infield.
For practice on Wednesday, Matsui played catch at a distance of about 70 meters and hit about 100 balls from each side of the plate during BP.
