Hanshin Tigers News and Notes: November 26, 2010

by on Nov.26, 2010 @ 3:19 pm, under NPB

Tomoaki Kanemoto did not take part in the team's golf tournament on the 25th and instead spent his time working out at Naruohama.  After spending some time with weights, Kanemoto did some running outside (for the first time this off-season; all of his running up to now has been done indoors) -- back and forth between the fouls poles three times and four 100 meter dashes.  Kanemoto is trying to make sure that he'll be ready for the start of spring camp.

It appears Minoru Iwata is planning on working out by himself during the winter.  Up until this year, Iwata had worked out with the help of other players like Kei Igawa (2007 - 2008) and Toshiya Sugiuchi (2009 - 2010).  Now it seems he wants to start working on his own training program and plans to base most of his training out of Naruohama and Koshien.

Kodai Sakurai worked out (seems like some light running) at Naruohama on Thursday.  It was his first workout since undergoing right elbow surgery on the 16th (the stitches came out on the 24th).  Sakurai will continue his rehab at Naruohama.  Still no word on whether or not he'll train in Okinawa in January.

===

Takumi Akiyama would like a chance to take on a bet with Tomoaki Kanemoto.

And it seems pitching coach Takashi Yamaguchi plans on making Akiyama do lots of running and throwing during spring camp.  And while the coaches place a 100-pitch limit on his bullpen sessions during fall camp, those limits will likely come off during spring camp.

It seems Akiyama will also be included in an Ehime prefecture textbook on school sports.

===

Takahiro Arai is hoping to help make Akihito Fujii's transition to the Tigers easier and will do whatever he can to make sure he feels welcome.

Atsushi Nomi and Yasutomo Kubo also hope to speak with Fujii during spring camp to make sure they're all on the same page.

===

Nomi apparently has plans on working out with Shinji Komiyama in Okinawa come January.  Keisuke Kano, who underwent back surgery, won't be working out with Nomi this winter.

Nomi is also hoping to get a lot of running done in Okinawa to make up for the time he lost to his right foot injury this past season.

===

Batting coach Yutaka Wada is hoping that the younger players will step up and take advantage of the extra opportunities the Tigers will be giving them come spring camp (referring to the plan to take 4-5 more younger players).  And fielding / base-running coach Koji Yamawaki plans on pushing the younger outfield candidates, like Shunsuke Fujikawa, Kohei Shibata, Yuhei Kai, and Kenichi Tagami, with plenty of fielding practice during spring camp.

===

Takashi Toritani was formally named chief player rep for the 2011 season on Thursday.  Vice chief player rep Kyuji Fujikawa and reps Nomi and Keisuke Kano will also retain their positions for the 2011 season.

===

The Tigers finished signing 13 coaches to extensions for the 2011 season on Thursday.
