Sponichi reports that it seems there's a very good chance that Alex Cabrera won't be returning to the Orix Buffaloes next season because the two sides are still far apart on contract talks. Chunichi Shimbun notes that Cabrera's contract ended on the 25th and that he became a free agent on the 26th.
The Buffaloes' last offer is rumored to have been a 1-year deal wroth 300M yen.
Assuming Chunichi Shimbun's report is true, the Softbank Hawks are said to be interested in Cabrera.
As for the Buffaloes, Akinobu Okada told reporters recently that the club is looking into a other foreign players and that what they want is a starter. The Buffaloes' front office also appears to be on the same page, but more specifically, it seems they're on the look out for both a left and right-handed starter, in addition to a position player. The Buffaloes are working on a list of potential candidates and hope to have things narrowed down before the end of the month.
