At least two reports (Sponichi, Nikkan Sports) make mention of a 3-year deal worth US$9M (about 720M yen), which works out to US$3M a year (about 240M yen). That would be a nice raise of what he made this year (170M yen). Incidentally, the Nikkan Sports report also mentions that Rick Thurman is probably representing Tsuyoshi Nishioka. And the Sponichi report adds that the Nishioka might bat first and start at second.
Sports Hochi notes that the Twins' first spring training home opener next season is against the Boston Red Sox. They're also already hyping up the possible match-up of Nishioka and Daisuke Matsuzaka.
A couple of media sites (Mainichi and Sponichi have the same report) are carrying a report that the Pioneer Press mixed in a photo of Masahiro Araki in their slide show of images on Nishioka. For those that don't know, it's the first image.
According to WEEI (via Nikkan Sports) the Boston Red Sox placed a bid for Nishioka in the US$2M range. The Minnesota Twins are rumored to have won rights to negotiate with Nishioka with a bid in the US$5M range.
And Akinori Iwamura warns Nishioka (through the press) about the cold Minnesota weather and advises him to be careful about getting hurt because of it.
