2010 Draft News and Notes: November 29, 2010

Hanshin Tigers

The Tigers could start Daiki Enokida (1st round) at Ni-gun spring camp next year.  While it wouldn't be strange for him to start things off at Ichi-gun spring camp next year because he was drafted out of the Industrial League, it seems the Tigers want to take things slowly with Enokida to avoid injury.

Hiroshima Carp

Yuya Fukui (1st round) was assigned the number 11.

Chiba Lotte Marines

...agreed to terms with Atsushi Kobayashi (3rd round) today.  Contract 15M yen, bonus 60M yen.  He was also assigned the number 41.

Nippon Ham Fighters

Yuki Saito (1st round) told reporters after yesterday's parade (lasted 22 minutes, 800 meter parade route) that he was surprised to see such a large turnout (about 2,000 fans) and that his first pitch in the pros would be a fastball. Incidentally, Saito's first pitch with Waseda University came on 4/14/2007 and was a 140km/h fastball. ... Saito also left these three bits of advice for Waseda's next captain (Shohei Habu): do you best; communicate with all the players; be patient and persevere. ... Nikkan Sports mentions that security measures will be beefed up ("VIP treatment") for Saito when he travels to Hokkaido in December.

Seibu Lions

Tatsuya Oishi (1st round) did not take part in Waseda's victory parade yesterday.  Seems he had returned home.  The other two members of the "Big Three" did participate in the parade. ... If the Nippon Ham Fighters decide to start Yuki Saito against them next season, the Lions will apparently counter with Oishi.  Said pitching coach Kazuyoshi Ono, "If Oishi is making good progress and the team is in a good place ... if they come at us with Yuki Saito, we'll think about countering with Oishi.  After all, these are two good pitchers from the same university that'll be pitching in the same league." ... The Lions don't want Oishi to gain too much weight during the winter and apparently had conditioning coach Susumu Yoneda create a meal plan for Oishi.  It also seems the Lions are a little worried after their first round draft pick last year, Yusei Kikuchi, showed up a little heavier after eating too many carbs.
