Comments from Michihiro Ogasawara’s press conference

by on Nov.30, 2010 @ 4:00 am, under NPB

As mentioned previously, Michihiro Ogasawara agreed to a 2-year extension that will pay him 430M yen next season (up 50M yen from this past season).

Sanspo is carrying comments from Ogasawara's press conference.  I've translated them down below:

Your thoughts from this past season.

We couldn't win the CL and we didn't get far in the Climax Series.  It was a disappointing season for me.  It could have gone either way.

What is the club expecting of you?

They asked me to continue pulling this team together.

Your thoughts on the 2011 season.

Winning the Central League and becoming Nippon Series champions.  At the very least, staying healthy and playing every day.

Your just 11 hits away from 2,000...

I think it's a record anyone can reach if they're healthy.  I'd like to reach the milestone as soon as possible.

You'll be close to 40 when the contract ends...

Playing until I'm 40 isn't a goal, I just want to play as long as I can.  In order to accomplish that, I do need to continue working hard when I hit 40.

Do you want to retire in a Giants' uniform?

That's what I'm thinking right now.
