Yakult Swallows to part ways with four foreign players

The Yakult Swallows announced today that they were parting ways with Jamie D'Antona, Hei-Chun Lee, Tony Barnette, and Eulo De La Cruz.

      He could be an interesting pick-up for the Eagles, but if they bring Ruiz back, then D’Antona doesn’t really have a position to play, since they’re both more or less first baseman.

      I suppose you could move D’Antona to left, but with Matsui and Iwamura on the team, Kusano might end up spending more time in the OF next season.

      I think the only way it makes sense is if the Eagles let Ruiz go and give D’Antona a try. And in the end, the two seem fairly similar (Ruiz: in 81 games .333/.450/.784 vs D’Antona: in 99 games .315/.456/.771 — that’s OBP/SLG/OPS). And if that’s the case, it might just make more sense to hold onto Ruiz since he already has a history with the team.

    Barnette was nothing short of a disappointment for Yakult this season. I really thought he had the chops to be a good pitcher for that team.
