Hirokazu Sawamura (1st round) visited the Tochigi city offices on Friday. He also told reporters that his first pro pitch will be whatever the catcher tells him to throw.
Nippon Ham Fighters
The Fighters announced that they will meet with Yuki Saito (1st round) on the 6th. ... Satoshi Nakajima, player / battery coach, thinks Saito should take it easy for his first bullpen session during spring camp and throw to a standing catcher (apparently what Daisuke Matsuzaka did in his first year). Nakajima also hopes to sit down with Saito at some point so that he can pass along other bits of advice. Sanspo notes that Nakajima suggested Masataka Nashida suit up and be Saito's first catcher. ... Nashida told reporters on Friday that if there's a match-up between Saito and Masahiro Tanaka next season, the first game will likely take place at Sapporo Dome, not Kleenex Stadium. ... It seems that hotels in Nago, Okinawa are already filling-up with fans that want to catch a glimpse of Saito during spring camp. A number of travel companies are also setting up travel packages to Nago. One travel company expects more fans this time around than when Yu Darvish first joined the club (3,500 fans apparently showed up on the first day of spring camp to see Darvish). ... The Fighters are planning on setting up a special cafeteria for Saito during the rookie training session at Kamagaya in January. There's only one convenience store within walking distance of the Ni-gun grounds at Kamagaya and the club is concerned for Saito's safety (the Fighters are expecting a lot of fans to show).
