According to Nikkan Sports, the Softbank Hawks offered Munenori Kawasaki both a multi-year deal and a 1-year deal. Kawasaki then proceeded to thank the team for their considerations and went with the 1-year deal worth 240M yen.
"They provided me with an offer that was more than I expected. I'll be wearing a Hawks uniform next year. That's all," said Kawasaki. "Thinking about international FA options can be difficult. But, I have decided what I want do in my mind."
He added, "First of all, Ichiro is amazing. [Matt] Murton broke Ichiro's record and now I'd like to break Murton's record. Ideally, I'll bat 1.000 and hit 70 homers, but I'll approach the season with the idea of collecting about 290 hits. I want to play for the fans. I want to fulfill my destiny as a professional play. And I just want to have fun while I play."
