12/10/2010: Kenshin Kawakami, Hideki Matsui, Hiroyuki Kobayashi

by on Dec.10, 2010 @ 2:15 pm, under MLB

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's Rob Biertempfel tweets that Kenshin Kawakami "remains an option for #Pirates" and that the Pirates "seem to be close to deal w/Braves for Kawakami. Money is one issue, another is if/when Maholm is dealt."  There's a little more at Biertempfel's Bucco Blog.

The Mariners and White Sox are probably no longer players for Hideki Matsui, notes Nikkan Sports.  A separate Nikkan Sports report adds that the Angels aren't necessarily interested in re-signing Matsui (despite the fact that Carl Crawford signed with the Red Sox).  The report also includes information that the Rays are looking for a DH that can play first, rather than the DH that can play the outfield.

The Mets are interested in Hideki Okajima (since they lost Hisanori Takahashi and Pedro Feliciano).  And the Red Sox (along with the Dodgers and Diamondbacks) are apparently interested in Hiroyuki Kobayashi.

Koji Uehara's contract is a one-year deal (with a vesting option for a second year) worth US$3M (or about 250M yen) plus incentives (which can max out at US$5M).  The contract will become official after Uehara passes a medical exam.  (via Nikkan Sports)

A little more on Yoshinori Tateyama's contract: it's a split contract where if he makes the MLB roster he gets US$800,000 (or 67.2M yen).  If he doesn't make the MLB roster and stays in the minors, he'll make US$200,000 (or 16.8M yen).

Nikkan Sports reports that Eric Wedge said Ichiro was the team's lead-off hitter.
