The Ibaraki Golden Golds played an exhibition game against Daisuke Matsuzaka's Team Samurai today at Hiratsuka Stadium. About 12,000 fans showed up to watch the game.
Of perhaps more significance than the actual score: it was also Kinichi Hagimoto's last game as manager of the team.
According to Nikkan Sports, Matsuzaka went 7-for-9 with 7 RBI (3-run homer, 3 singles to center, a timely hit to right, and two timely doubles to center). And for the bottom of the 9th, the Samurai line-up was made up just three batters: Yusuke Kamiji, Matsuzaka, and Katsuaki Furuki.
Sponichi reports that 7,000 INF seats were sold out in 2 weeks and an additional 5,000 OF seats were also sold. Kamiji picked up 4 hits and Furuki hit a solo homer in the 7th.
Ayumi Kataoka lead-off and started at second. Kataoka will be taking over as the new manager of the Golden Golds beginning on 1/29. She will also take on Hagimoto's number 55.
SDN48 was also on hand to perform their new song, GAGAGA.
