Softbank Hawks News and Notes: December 12, 2010

Hiroki Kokubo will remain captain of the team for the 2011 season.  Kokubo was apparently told by Koji Akiyama, after the Climax Series, that Kokubo would remain captain of the team as long as he was manager.  So the minute he agreed to his 300M yen salary for the 2011 season, his captaincy was also automatically extended another season.

Seiichi Uchikawa attended the opening ceremony for the Uchikawa Seiichi Cup taking place in Oita on Saturday (first of its kind).  About 160 kids spread across 8 teams participated in the tournament.

Uchikawa also wore the full Hawks' uniform (first time in public since he joined the club) to the opening ceremony while his wife took to the PA booth.

Sanspo notes that the first block of negotiations, using the new salary assessment system, ended with mixed results (mostly negative it seems).  The article adds that even Tsuyoshi Wada came away from negotiations unsure of how effective / fair the new system was.

"I asked if similar results from last season will result in a pay cut and they said yes," said Wada.

He continued, "I thought about putting their offer on hold at first.  But they said they would work on the system and then I decided I would sign."

Incidentally, it seems the club also offered Wada a multi-year deal.  But with his international FA option coming next season, Wada likely wanted to keep his options open and turned it down.
