Nippon Ham Fighters
Yuki Saito's (1st round) registered name will most likely be "斎藤佑樹" and his name will appear on scoreboards as "斎藤佑". There were a number of proposals, but the team decided on a standard format at the request of Saito. Incidentally, the top three choices submitted by the Nippon Ham Fighters Fan Support Group (as selected by fans) were: Yu-chan, Yu-san, and Yukki.
The "Michinoku Trio" (the trio from the Tohoku region), comprising of Takahiro Shiomi (1st round; Hachinohe Univ), Toshihito Abe (3rd round, Tohoku Fukushi Univ), and Kengo Kimura (Iuksei 2nd round; Sendai Ikuei HS), met with Senichi Hoshino yesterday during their tour of the facilities.
One of the things Shiomi is hoping to improve is his change-up (he has confidence in his fastball). Said Shiomi, "I won't worry about velocity. What's more important is mixing in slower pitches." He also said that he liked Tsuyoshi Wada and Hisanori Tsuyoshi's change-ups.
Tatsuya Oishi (1st round) will be using a slightly smaller glove on the mound next season (somewhere between and infielder's glove and a pitcher's glove).
