12/14/2010: Hideki Matsui, Koji Uehara, Hiroki Kuroda

Hideki Matsui has signed a 1-year deal with the Oakland Athletics.  According to the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser, the deal could be worth anywhere from US$5-7M, depending on who you ask.  At this point, the only thing keep the deal from becoming official is the physical Matsui needs to take Tuesday morning, which means a press conference could take place some time Tuesday afternoon.  Slusser also says that the current owner of the number 55, Josh Outman, would give up his number if asked (and assuming the deal becomes official).

Koji Uehara apparently traveled to Baltimore to formally sign his contract with the Orioles.  Uehara returned to Japan on the 4th, but posted a note on his blog on the 13th about arriving in Baltimore for a physical.  His most recent entry from the 14th mentions he'll be signing his contract on Monday, which coincides with the AP's report that the Orioles finalized their deal with Uehara.

The Baltimore Sun (via Nikkan Sports) notes that while the base deal is worth $3M, incentives could push the actual value of the contract to $5M.

Nikkan Sports reports that if Hiroki Kuroda returns to Japan, it'll likely be with the Hiroshima Carp.  Seems he also made a deal to give Kenta Maeda an expensive watch if Maeda won more games during the season.  Kuroda won 11 games while Maeda won 15.
