Cleveland Indians sign former Yomiuri Giant Toru Murata

Murata held a press conference in Tokyo today to announce his deal with the Indians.
"I'm happy to be given this opportunity," said Murata. "If I'm going to do this, I figured I'd step onto the biggest stage, the Majors"

The Cleveland Indians have apparently signed 25-year-old RHP Toru Murata to a minor league deal. Murata stands at 182cm and weighs 80kg. He was drafted out of college (Osaka University of Health and Sport Sciences) by the Yomiuri Giants in the 2007 draft.
Murata throws a slider, cutter, curve, fork, and change; his fastball tops out at around 148km/h. In his three years with the Giants, Murata did not see any playing time at Ichi-gun. He was released by the Giants on 12/2.
A press conference announcing the deal is planned on the 22nd.
