Tetsuya Matsumoto is getting a new number next season: from 31 to 32.
Said Matsumoto, "I got injured wearing the number 31 this year, so I wanted a change. ... [32 is also] half of 64, and it's a change of pace. I'll be happy if people think of Matsumoto when they think of the number 32."
Utsumi also donated 121 back packs to kids this season (one for every strikeout). He personally handed out 17 of them to kids at a childcare facility in Kita-ku, Tokyo today. The other back packs were sent to various facilities in Tokyo, Kanagawa, and Chiba.
Tetsuya Yamaguchi worked out a Giants Stadium on Friday and later told reporters that he'd like to become a pitcher like Hitoki Iwase. In other words, he'd like to become a pitcher that can make 50+ appearances over 12 consecutive season. Yamaguchi also told reporters he still wasn't sure what his role would be for the 2011 season.
