Shohei Tateyama recorded his third consecutive double-digit win season this year and would like to take the opening day start away from Masanori Ishikawa (opening day starter 3 years in a row).
While Tateyama worked out at Jingu on Monday, he does have plans on working out in Hawaii again.
Said Tateyama, "Just like very year, I'll do some running, some weight-lifting, and I'll play some catch. I'll run for 3 hours in the morning. It's really a great place to run."
Yoshinori Sato provided a year-end report to his Koenkai in Sendai on Monday. About 600 people attended.
Aikawa caught Ishii back during their days at Tokyo Gakkan High School (Aikawa in was drafted in 1994 and Ishii in 1995). They were briefly re-united in 2004 when they both made the Olympic roster.
Ishii required left shoulder surgery in 2006 and hasn't really been the same since, spending all of his time at Ni-gun. He was on track for a comeback this season, but suffered a freak injury during spring camp (suffered a laceration on his right big toe) that put a big damper on his return; Ishii never fully recovered and failed to make it to the active roster for the 4th consecutive season.
