The Hanshin Tigers are apparently thinking about contacting Hiroyuki Kobayashi sometime in the New Year. Seems they like him as a possible option out of the bullpen. And assuming he gives up on his quest to play in the Majors, the Tigers want to be ready to step up and sign the 32-year-old.
"There's still Hiroyuki Kobayashi," said a club rep. "We're thinking about dropping him a line some time in January. ... He really fits in terms of our needs. And he's still young, that makes him attractive."
While the Tigers appear to be satisfied with the players they currently have on the roster, they are still a little concerned about their bullpen (more specifically, about who to bring in before Kyuji Fujikawa). The Tigers also looked into Hideki Okajima, but it seems they covet Kobayashi more.
