12/31/2010: Tsuyoshi Nishioka, Hideki Okajima

by on Dec.31, 2010 @ 12:53 pm, under MLB

Tsuyoshi Nishioka plans to start his workouts next year on 1/7.  1, for the uniform number he'll be wearing with the Minnesota Twins and 7 for the old uniform number he wore when he played for the Chiba Lotte Marines.  Coincidence?  Certainly.  But it's the kind of thing that sells in Japan.

And speaking of  Nishioka's old uniform number with the Chiba Lotte Marines, it seems the number will remain unused until the team can find a suitable replacement.

"If a that is worth of the number comes along, he'll probably have a chance to wear the number," said team director Akira Ishikawa.  "We also aren't think about asking Nishioka for permission.  I don't think he's the type that would really care about that anyway."

And while not directly connected to Nishioka, TwinsFest 2011 will be moving to the National Sports Center in Blaine after the Metrodome Teflon roof collapsed due to heavy snowfall on the 12th.

The Double Hideki's?  At least three media outlets (Nikkan Sports, Sponichi, and Sports Hochi) have picked up on the FOX Sports story by Ken Rosenthal that mention the Oakland A's being interested in Hideki Okajima.  And for the two Hideki's, it could be a reunion of sorts as they both played for the Yomiuri Giants (1995 - 2002).

Hideki Matsui arrived in Ishikawa (his home prefecture) on Friday and was greeted by about 200 fans at Komatsu Airport.
