Plans for an Under-26 team gets shot down

by on Dec.31, 2010 @ 12:03 am, under NPB

There were talks of the NPB putting together a roster full of players under 26 -- 2013 WBC hopefuls, if you will -- and having them play an exhibition game against each other in March.

That idea was apparently shot down on Wednesday by 4 unnamed clubs (from both the Pacific and Central Leagues).

The NPB executive committee proposed the idea of an Under-26 team and suggested that an exhibition game be played at Tokyo Dome on 3/8/2011 (CL vs PL: battle of the top prospects).

A number of clubs were disappointed at the plan being shot down.  One club rep said, "I don't think it's good to have teams that only think of themselves...  It seems to me that [an exception could have been made] for just 1 game."
