Yasuyuki Kataoka (SEI) told reporters that if Yuki Saito (1st round) makes his debut against the Seibu Lions, he'll be sure to swing as hard as he can at the first pitch, since Saito has already mentioned that he'll probably throw a fastball on his first pitch.
According to a report filed by Sponichi, the Fighters are guessing that Saito could be about as popular (in terms of TV commercials) as Ryo Ishikawa (pro golfer). Ishikawa is apparently the top TV commercial personality right now (under contract with 17 companies; Ichiro currently leads all baseball players with 7 companies under his belt). If the team lifts their current ban on rookies appearing in commercials (first instituted after the team moved to Sapporo in 2004), he could end up appearing in a number of commercials next year (and if he gets the green light, he'll first appear in a Nippon Ham commercial).
The nickname Yu-chan, and various iterations of the name like Yuko-chan, Yuka-chan, and Yuri-chan, are apparently being used a lot more frequently at various men's clubs (Club Lion, Club Taiga, and Akamon Club) in the Susukino district in Sapporo.
