Hanshin Tigers

Shinta Hifumi (2nd round) tossed 50 pitches (from the side) to a standing catcher in the bullpen yesterday.  It was his first bullpen since 12/28.  Said Hifumi about his bullpen, "It felt good to throw again.  I threw all my pitches.  I was close to throwing at 100%."  Hifumi also talked about borrowing a book out of Antonio Inoki's trademark phrase, "1, 2, 3, daaa!" and instead staying "Hi, Fu, Mi, daaa!" during his hero interview. ... Hifumi's first day of practice in 2011 took place on Monday and last about 2 hours (running, stretches, and BP.

Fumiya Araki (5th round) worked out in Koto Ward, Tokyo today -- he played some catch and took some fielding practice.

Yomiuri Giants

Hirokazu Sawamura (1st round) apparently did 3 sets of 10 barbell squat reps at 185kgThat's more than Takahiro Arai's (HAN) 160kg and Tomoaki Kanemoto's (HAN) 180kg -- both considered a large amount for NPB players.  Sawamura's thighs are also about 65cm thick. ... Yoshimasa Takahashi's, Sawamura's manager at Chuo University, advice to Sawamura: velocity isn't everything; improve the accuracy on your fastball.

Chiba Lotte Marines

...announced that they signed Shuhei Fujiya (6th round) to a contract (no word on the amount) and assigned him the number 54. ... Contract 4.5M yen, bonus 2M yen (via Nikkan Sports)

Nippon Ham Fighters

Yuki Saito (1st round) is looking forward to facing Waseda alums Norichika Aoki (YAK) and Takashi Toritani (HAN).

The Fighters announced today that they hired former high school teacher Yukio Motomura (本村幸雄 ?) to be their player development director (dorms).  He'll be working primarily with prospects drafted out of high school, although college and industrial league players will also be able to approach him for advice.

With Lotte's signing of Fujiya today, all non-Ikusei players drafted in 2010 are now officially under contract (35 CL, 33 PL).
