Daiki Yoshikawa (2nd round) is apparently doing well during the Dragons' prospects' training camp. So much so that he might be able to attend Ichi-gun spring camp.
Said training coach Yasushi Miki, "Yoshikawa is really efficient. He's like a light-weight car. Right now, amongst the 5 rookies we have in camp, he may be the only player that might be able to make it to Ichi-gun camp."
Akinobu Mayumi told reporters yesterday that he didn't think Shinta Hifumi's (2nd round) late start will be a problem. ... Pitching coach Takashi Yamaguchi said that he didn't want to rush things with Hifumi. ... Hifumi worked a separate menu again today (mostly running).
Hiroki Kuroda told Yuya Fukui (1st round) yesterday not to rush and to make sure he set a goal he could work towards.
Yoshitaka Isomura (5th round) spent about an hour breaking in his catcher's glove (a Yoshiyuki Ishihara model glove) in the batting cages after prospects' training camp on Wednesday.
Yuki Shichijo (2nd round) told reporters on Wednesday that he'd like to pick up a fork to complement his fastball, curve, slider, and change. Depending on how prospects' training camp goes over the next few days, Shichijo could do some pitching in the bullpen on the 16th.
When reporters asked Hirokazu Sawamura (1st round) about his thoughts on Yuki Saito (HAM, 1st round), he replied, "I just need to do what I need to do." Nikkan Sports has a slightly longer quote: "Can you please refrain from asking me questions about other players in my age group? They have nothing to do with me. I am me." During practice yesterday, he played catch at 40 meters first, and then extended that out to 70 meters.
Tatsunori Hara will begin watching the sessions from the 14th and a staff meeting is scheduled for the 17th.
Nippon Ham Fighters
Masaru Saito (6th round) is having a hard time determining when people are calling out to him (both fans and coaches) or when they're calling to Yuki Saito (1st round). When asked how he was taking the commotion, he said he was used to it because he was drafted out of the Industrial Leagues.
Takahiro Kato (Ikusei 1st round) and Kengo Kimura (Ikusei 2nd round) underwent physicals yesterday and worked out under different training menus.
The Eagles held shuttle runs during practice yesterday. Hayato Kawaguchi (Ikusei 3rd round) led all players with 133 and missed the team high of 134 held by Ryo Hijirisawa. Takahiro Shiomi (1st round) came in second with 113.
Tatsuya Oishi (1st round) told reporters he'd like to lose about 5kg before spring camp (begin of prospects' training camp 92kg, to present weight of 90kg, to the final of 87kg by spring camp). He's also started drinking VAAM (sports energy drink) in order to help him burn the fat. When asked to provide a comment regarding all the fans that showed up to watch Saito, Oishi said that he wouldn't be able to talk much if there were so many people watching him and that he preferred the smaller crowds.
Today's training included a total 8.5km worth of running.
Hawks training today included dashes, fielding practice, and trunk exercises.
