2010 Draft News and Notes: January 15, 2011

Hanshin Tigers

Daiki Enokida (1st round) and Shinta Hifumi (2nd round) were guests on Sun TV's Nekketsu! Tigers-to yesterday.

Hifumi ended in 4th during a 3,500 meter run yesterday.  He also met Tomoaki Kanemoto for the first time during his weight training exercises.

Masaki Anada (Ikusei 3rd round) finished with the best time (13m 11s) during the team's 3,500 meter run (350 meter course x 10 laps) yesterday.

The rookies had the day off today, but they still worked out on their own (running, playing catch).

Hiroshima Carp

Masaya Kanemaru (4th round) tossed a bullpen session on the third day of prospects' training camp yesterday.  He threw a total 25 pitches (including off-speed pitches) to catcher Yoshitaka Isomura (5th round).

Kenjiro Nomura told reporters yesterday that all four rookie pitchers will probably start the year at Ichi-gun camp.  Reason: he's curious to see how they'll do and he also thinks they'll provide motivation for other pitchers.

Yakult Swallows

Takanori Sato (Ikusei 3rd round) bumped into his brother, Yoshinori, at Toda Stadium yesterday.  While the two did work out together in December / January, it was the first time they practiced at the same Yakult facilities.

Yomiuri Giants

Hirokazu Sawamura (1st round) finished in 4th during a long distance run yesterday.  He was also playing catch at a distance of about 70 meters. ... Tatsunori Hara told reporters yesterday he liked the way Sawamura's eyes shined (with enthusiasm and strength) during practice.

Chiba Lotte Marines

Shota Ishimine (1st round) was the lead runner during five 100m shuttle runs yesterday (100 meters, 18 second time limit * 5 = 1 set * 5 sets in all).  Ishimine told reporters it was an easy run for him because he had been doing a lot of running since December.

Nippon Ham Fighters

Yodai Enoshita (4th round) hopes to get an invite to work out with Yu Darvish in the winter at some point in the future.

Yesterday's practice lasted about 5 hours.

Rakuten Eagles

The first block of prospects' training camp ended yesterdayBeginning on the 17th, the prospects will spend 2 days / 1 night at Sendai University in Shibata, Miyagi for Hypoxic Training.  The players will get a physical fitness test on the 17th, spend the night in a hypoxia chamber, and then do aerobic exercises on on the 18th.

Seibu Lions

Tatsuya Oishi (1st round) apparently doesn't have much confidence in his running ability.  He told reporters that he did enjoy the training session in the pool on Friday. ... Oishi is apparently quite confident in his fielding abilities.

Masato Kumashiro (6th round) apparently needs a body pillow in order to sleep.
