NPB reveals results of their player survey taken in October 2011

The NPB conducted a survey of 238 active baseball players that attended the Pheonix League in October last year and announced the results on MondayInformation about the survey and some of the findings:

Average age of players that took the survey = 23.9 (between 18 and 35)

Average number of years since turning pro = 3.4 years

Average yearly salary = 9.083M yen

10% of players said they didn't have any savings, 19% said they weren't sure, and 71% said they did

For those that did have savings:

25.8% said they had 1M to 3.99M in savings

21.8% said they had 10M to 19.99M in savings

9.7% said they had 20M to 29.99M in savings

4.8% said they had less than 990,000 in savings; and 4.8% said they had more than 50M yen in savings

51.5% said they had less than 9.99M in savings

56% said they were worried about their career paths and 37% said they were worried about their income

72% said they were worried about life after retirement

Jobs after retirement:

26% said they were interested in coaching high school baseball

17% said they were interested in coaching pro yakyu

16% said they were interested in running a restaurant

The Western League's board of governors held a meeting in Fukuoka on Monday and confirmed the league's decision to allow teams to add as many inter-league games to their schedule as needed, provided they submit all paperwork by 3/31.  The Eastern League already confirmed this back on 1/13.
