Yuki Saito News and Notes: January 18, 2011

by on Jan.18, 2011 @ 11:25 am, under NPB

This post will be updated with information as it becomes available so keep checking back if you have any interest in Yuki Saito.

1,500 people dropped by to see Saito practicing yesterday.

As of yesterday, Saito was scheduled to toss a bullpen session today.  And according to Sponichi, he'll probably throw at least one bullpen session in each of the blocks until the end of rookie training camp.  Incidentally, it seems none of the bullpen sessions will be open to the public (Fighters are worried about fan safety).  If Saito does toss (or has already tossed) a bullpen session today, it'll be his first stint on the mound since 11/18 last year (a span of 61 days).

Saito tossed about 40 pitches in the bullpen today (with a standing catcher).  A couple TV news programs are reporting 32 pitches.  The doors to the indoor bullpen area were also closed to fans today.

Nikkan Sports notes that Saito did not have a neck warmer on today.

According to Nikkan Sports, the Fighters are thinking about turning to the local community in Sapporo to help support / keep an eye on Saito when he ends up moving to the Ichi-gun dorms.  And unlike the player dorms in Kamagaya, which are shut off to the public at night, the player dorms in Sapporo are more or less open to the public.

Kimiyasu Kudo praised Saito on the use of his lower body and pegged him for 13-15 wins this season during a lecture he gave for Orix Life Insurance today.
