2010 Draft News and Notes: January 20, 2011

by on Jan.20, 2011 @ 4:54 pm, under NPB

I'll be updating this post throughout the day, so be sure to keep checking back.

Chunichi Dragons

Yuta Muto (3rd round) held his first bullpen session yesterday and tossed 22 pitches to a standing catcher.

Hanshin Tigers

Daiki Enokida (1st round) tossed 50 pitches in his first bullpen session today.

Hiroshima Carp

General training camp began today at the Ono practice facilities.  The rookies joined in as well.

Shota Nakazaki (6th round) had a chance to watch Kiyoshi Toyoda throwing the ball around at the Ono practice facilities today.

Yakult Swallows

Yuki Shichijo (2nd round) would like a chance to watch Yuki Saito (HAM, 1st round) working out.  Said Shichijo, "I can't stop thinking about Saito.  He's younger then me, and it's amazing how all those people show up to watch him.  I'd like to see what his practices are like."  Seems he's even thinking about checking things out at Kamagaya during one of his days off. ... It isn't his decision to make, but Shichijo would like to be a starter.

Takanori Sato's (Ikusei 3rd round) first goal: to get a 2-digit uniform number.

Yomiuri Giants

Hirokazu Sawamura (1st round) worked out for about 2.5 hours on his day off yesterday (played catch, threw into a net, did trunk exercises).  He started his workouts at 9:30am, beginning with stretches.  He then did some running before playing catch at a distance of about 30 meters (60% strength).  After that, he spent about 15 minutes throwing into a net.  Sawamura also thought about playing catch at a distance of 18.44 meters, but stopped himself because he felt his lower body wasn't ready yet.

Chiba Lotte Marines

Shota Ishimine (1st round), Masaki Minami (2nd round), and Atsushi Kobayashi (3rd round) will all probably start the year at Ichi-gun spring camp.  And it seems Norifumi Nishimura would like to see Ishimine compete for the starting CF job.

Nippon Ham Fighters

Masaru Saito (6th round) began his day off by visiting the local police station in order to change the address on his drivers license.  He then went shopping for some day-to-day items and return to the player dorms.  While holding his new license, he told reporters that he wanted to do his best so that he'll have to do another change of address in Sapporo.

Rakuten Eagles

Kengo Kimura (Ikusei 2nd round) apparently threw about 20 pitches during his first bullpen session yesterday.

Seibu Lions

Tatsuya Oishi (1st round) tossed 31 pitches (all fastballs) to a squatting catcher in his first the bullpen session today.  Ginjiro caught Oishi's bullpen session and told reporters that his fastball had good movement and that the ball came out of his hand like Takayuki Kishi.
