A little old but...
The media learned on the 21st that the Osaka Gold Villicanes will be shutting down operations due to insufficient funding.
Team rep Takaaki Miyamoto also sent a statement, dated the 17th, to players notifying them of the situation. The players were also informed that the club would not be able to pay them any back wages from the 2010 season (about 3-4 months at 150,000 yen per month).
The Osaka Gold Villicanes are established in 2008 and spend their first year (2009) playing in the Kansai Independent League. They decide to leave the Kansai Independent League after a successful first year (they went a combined 41-27-4) in order to join the the Japan Future Baseball League (JFBL). In June 2010, 8 Osaka players are caught in a gambling scandal and the team (and league) never fully recover.
